Barnes & Noble: The Giving Tree is a Success

This is the 10th year I've worked with UCF's Barnes & Noble Bookstore to collect books throughout the holiday season for charity.

I just received 8 huge boxes of books that I will distribute to after school programs for children in underserved areas, community organizations, and shelters located in the Orlando community.

It's exciting to give a child a brand new book of their very own, or provide a community program or school with books to help tutor in after school programs. You never know when a child will pick up that one book that will change their life. The book that starts their lifelong love for reading. I remember the first book that changed my life. It made me want to read everyday, and become a writer. 

I know that these books will bring joy so many children, and I want to thank all the people who made donations to the the Giving Tree.

Helping the Haitian Community in their time of need.

First, I want to send my prayers to all of the people in Haiti who were affected by the recent earthquake. 

I am lucky that I've been working at the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) for the last 16+ years. The leaders at the NCAS have already put together a plan to help with the current rescue efforts, and are already planning ahead to actively assist with the rebuilding effort.

Currently, the NCAS along with the DeVos Sport Business Management Program at the University of Central Florida, have donated over 21 weeks of service to New Orleans and have raised over $400,000 to help in the wake of Katrina. We hope we can do as much to help out in Haiti.

Happy New Year!!!!!

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. 2009 was a great year for me and I want to thank everyone who supported my writing and publishing of "a life revealed." As promised, I am working on the sequel and hope to have it out by spring 2010.

I have joined a great new website called Goodreads http://www.goodreads.com. It is an excellent website for both authors and readers. You can follow books reviews, read about new books that have come out and even old ones that you might be interested in. Follow your favorite authors to see what's next for them, or check out their schedule. You never know when your favorite author might be doing a book signing in your area. Take a quick peek and join if you can.
